Self-service recording studio FAQs

  • Who can use the self-service recording studios?

    They are intended for staff to create teaching and learning resources. Other uses will be considered, on application, by the Associate Director, Learning Environments.

  • How to I get access to the self-service recording studios?

    On the day of your allocated booking, collect the room key from the library service desk, ensuring you have your staff ID card for validation. To join the service desk queue use the ticket machine, selecting the ‘Library’ option. NOTE: at peak times the queue can be up to 15 minutes.

  • What times are the self-service recording studios available?

    The room key is collected from the library service desk. Access to the room reflects their hours of operation.

  • What do I need to bring to my booking in the self-service recording studio?

    Your staff ID, an OS X compatible external storage device and any files or items you need to create your recording.

  • What do I do if I need more time at the end of my session to complete my recording?

    Check with the library service desk to see if there is a booking following your session. If no other bookings are scheduled you may continue using the room by asking the library staff to extend your booking in Calendar. Please be aware of the closing time of the service desk for returning the key.

  • What do I do with the key if someone arrives at the room for their booking as I am finishing up?

    You will need to return the key to the library service desk to ensure your staff card is marked as having returned the key. The other person can return to the desk with you to borrow the key with their card.

  • I am having difficulty with editing my Screenflow file, what do I do?
    • As this is a self-service studio, you are responsible for the editing of your files. Please refer to the Screenflow manual or review the Screenflow video guides to assist you with editing.
    • You can book a further familiarisation session in the room.
    • You can request editing assistance from Learning Environments via the general enquiry form charged at $75 per hour.
  • Do I have to use the self-service recording studio to edit my recording once I have made my recording?

    No. If you are a Mac user you can purchase of a copy of the Screenflow software from the Telestream website and edit the software on your own computer. Alternatively, you can request editing assistance from Learning Environments via the general enquiry form charged at $75 per hour.

  • I am having difficulty using the system, what do I do?
    • As this is a self-service studio, there is no ad-hoc technical support available for the room. For any technical issues or further assistance, please use the general enquiry form
    • You can book a further familiarisation session in the room.
  • What do I do with my files once I have finished?

    You are responsible for the storage and backup of your own files. Files left on the self-service studio computer will be deleted periodically. As this is a shared computer, please ensure you delete your files after backing them up. Save the Screenflow files to your external storage device so you can continue editing. For videos that are ready to be published use the export or publish to options for a viewable format of your file (Apple TV – *.M4V).

  • I want to publish to Vimeo but it is asking for login details

    An account with Vimeo needs to be set up. For an entire subject or course recording, we recommend the purchase of Vimeo Plus or Pro.

  • Is there a limit to how long or how often I book the room?

    In peak times please limit your booking length to two hours. You can book the room as many days that suits your schedule. However, if the self-service studio is in high demand you may not be able to have all your preferred time slots.

  • What if the Wacom stops responding?

    It has been noticed that occasionally the computer will lose communication with the Wacom tablet. If this happens unplug and replug the Wacom USB cable in the back of the computer.

  • I am having difficulty using the system, what do I do?
    • As this is a self-service studio, there is no ad-hoc technical support available for the room. For any technical issues or further assistance, please use the general enquiry form
    • You can book a further familiarisation session in the room
    • Consider bringing along someone from your department with technical experience who can assist in operating the system.
