About this session

There are many advantages to offering online open-book exams. When designed well, they allow students to demonstrate their achievement of subject learning outcomes in fair, reliable and valid ways.

In this 90-minute zoom session participants will explore the key features to a good online open-book exam. We will demonstrate best practice by showing examples of how an online exam can be structured and what well-crafted questions look like. Lastly, we will explore some online tools that can be used to deliver online exams, including Canvas Quizzes and Gradescope.

By participating in this workshop, you will be able to

  • Understand the purpose/rationale for having open book online exams
  • Identify the characteristics of a good open book online exam
  • Become familiar with a range of tools integrated into Canvas for open book exams, including Canvas Quizzes and assignments, GradeScope and Cadmus.
