Project Evolve update: August
Canvas pilot subjects are now well underway, with staff and students interacting with the new Canvas LMS for their learning and teaching needs! Feedback on the pilot has been positive from both staff and students alike, particularly regarding the ease of use of Canvas, and the migration process itself. The Project Evolve team will continue to gather feedback from pilot subjects as the semester progresses to facilitate a smooth transition for the upcoming full migration.
Full migration of subjects to Canvas for all subjects
In further positive news, the proposed method of moving all subjects to Canvas for 2020 in stages has been agreed on and approved by the Executive Directors of each Faculty and School. The staged plan focuses on three transition windows based on the timing of subjects, and aims to ensure that the staff and student experience is as consistent as possible, avoiding the need for any prolonged period of being required to use two different Learning Management Systems.
Staff will be supported through the process with professional development and consultations as required. A Migration Questionnaire has been sent to staff to gather information about their needs in moving to Canvas. A followup to this questionnaire with details on migration consultations offered for all subjects will follow shortly. To learn more about the process of moving subjects and their content to Canvas, each transition window timeline, and maintaining historical content, please visit the Project Evolve page and click the 'Getting ready for 2020' tab.
Canvas 24/7 phone and online chat support
As mentioned in previous communications, a Canvas 24/7 phone and online chat support is available to both staff and students at the University. These supports are available within Canvas by clicking on the 'Support' tab at the bottom of the left global navigation menu. If you would like to know more about these supports, please visit the Project Evolve page for further information.
Canvas step-by-step walk-through guides now available
The Support tab also provides a range of other support resources including links to guides, as well as a new 'walk-through' tool. This tool provides prompts on the screen to guide you through a range of Canvas functions in real time. For example, if you needed help to create a Canvas assignment, you could access the relevant step-by-step guide which would provide on-screen pointers to walk you through the creation of the assignment in real time in your subject. This tool is available to both staff and students.
We encourage all staff to keep an eye on the Project Evolve page for further updates on the project, and encourage any questions or feedback via the contact details on the site.
