New video management system (VMS): Kaltura
During the review of the University's learning management system (LMS) in 2018, the project team also undertook a review of the University's requirements for an enterprise wide video management system (VMS). After an extensive evaluation process, we are now pleased to announce that a solution has been selected. Kaltura will be the University's new VMS.
How did we make this selection?
The LMS project team undertook a requirements-gathering process with key input from stakeholders within Academic Divisions and University Services to assess their needs for video. After this was understood, the team reached out to a shortlist of vendors for further information and evaluated the products based on the following:
- Functionality that met the University of Melbourne's requirements
- Industry bench-marking
- Ability to deliver and implement the new system
- Technical requirements
- Ability to maintain and support the new system.
The evaluation team finalised their review by recommending the selection of Kaltura.
This has now been endorsed by the LMS Review Project Steering Group, and co-sponsors of the project, Professor Gregor Kennedy, Pro Vice-Chancellor Teaching & Learning, and Byron Collins, Executive Director Infrastructure Services and Chief Technology Officer.
The LMS project team will be working on the implementation of the new VMS throughout 2019.
